2003: The Bay Foundation of Morro Bay used their 2003 grant funds to print signs to direct boaters to the nearest pumpout stations, bilge water pumpout stations, and oil recycling centers around Morro Bay, CA.
2003: With the help of Boy Scouts completing their Eagle Scout projects, the Tropical Audubon Society constructed monofilament fishing line recycling bins and installed them at fishing piers in Miami, FL.
2003: Everglades for Everyone wrote and printed a brochure called “Code of Ethics for Boaters and Fisherman” which they distributed at Everglades National Park in Southwest Florida, as well as at nearby marinas and bait shops.
2003: The Lake Metonga Association, Inc. of Crandon, WI, erected two educational bulletin boards and purchased two power washers to help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species between lakes in their area.
2003: Sea Scout Ship 1797 of Winthrop, MA, purchased and outfitted a clean water and boating safety mobile educational trailer for use at boat shows and other public events.
2003: Over a dozen signs were printed and posted around area waterways by the St. Joseph Power Squadron of St. Joseph, MI, to remind boaters to keep their waterways clean. They were given grant funds to print four newspaper ads, but negotiated a deal to run 10 at the same price. Nice job!
2003: Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation of Portsmouth, NH, printed brochures and signs on clean boating for their “Boater Awareness Project."
2003: Boston Harbor Association of Boston, MA, developed and printed brochures directed at boaters on ways to protect water quality in Boston Harbor.
2003: Alliance for a Living Ocean of North Beach Haven, NJ, was printed signs and brochures reminding boaters to stay 100 feet from the shoreline.
2003: Maine Marine Trade Association Portland, ME, used their 2002 grant to implement the "Fill Don't Spill" campaign for Maine marinas and boaters, which included assembling fuel spill emergency kits, and printing info cards that attach to fuel nozzles.
In 2002, the Deep Creek Yacht Club in Brooklyn, New York, implemented a green boating campaign in the Gateway National Recreation Area. Local boaters were encouraged to sign a green boating pledge, then given a green boater decal which earned them discounts at certain local pumpout stations.
Partners for Conservation in Des Moines, Iowa, used their 2003 grant to print 10,000 static cling decals for boat windshields reminding boaters to bring their trash home with them.
In 2003, the Tropical Audobon Society in Miami, Florida, used grant money to purchase 32 monofilament fishing line recycling bins to place at local marinas and fishing spots.
The Lake Mead Boat Owners Association in Las Vegas, Nevada, printed 10,000 informational brochures and 10,000 business cards to help boaters in their area recognize and prevent the westward spread of aquatic zebra mussels.
The Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound used their 2002 Clean Water Grant to purchase reusable mesh bags that young sailors used to collect trash around the docks and while out boating.
Young kayakers display trash collected while kayaking as part of the Baltimore County Sailing Center’s 2002 grant to educate youth about nonpoint source pollution in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
